Towns are known to make roads which are perfectly safe at higher speeds limited to a lower speed just to bring in revenue. Although speeding ticket quotas in NJ may be illegal, every police officer knows that if he does not write a certain number of traffic tickets he faces the possibility of not being promoted or even worse terminated.

What Speeding Tickets Should I Just Pay Lets Discuss:
Our firm believes that, for some drivers, paying for a 2-point ticket may sometimes be a better option than fighting it. Here’s the logic: A 2-point ticket will come off your motor vehicle record in one year, provided you remain violation-free. Some insurance companies do not surcharge for the first 2-point ticket, and simply hiring a good lawyer to fight the ticket might cost more than the potential effects this ticket will have on your license—but only if your insurance company does not charge you.
Otherwise, even a 2-point ticket could raise your insurance by over $1,000 per year for the next few years. If you accumulate more points, your rates will increase even further. The average New Jersey driver will receive at least one speeding ticket in their lifetime, though some may receive many more. New Jersey does not have a maximum limit on what you can be charged for auto insurance. Your only options are to try to find a cheaper insurance company, lower your coverage, or fight your ticket.
With Attorney Aalsberg's 98% success rate in winning, reducing, or eliminating points and penalties, you give yourself the best chance of keeping your insurance rates low and maintaining a clean driving record—both of which can help prevent future tickets and surcharges.

In simplified layman terms this means that, if the driver knew or should have known, what he/she was doing was illegal or improper, (example running a red light or speeding double the limit or 30mph or more over the limit etc.) the judge may issue a license revocation or suspension to that person even if the particular statute has no provision for a license suspension.
A suspension under 39:5-31 is generally only given by a judge when a ticket is either:
- Marked with a mandatory court appearance or
- When an accident occurs as a result of the ticketed persons actions or
- If the person has a bad past driving record. (points may go away over time, but the violation stays on your record for life)
